Blessed Easter and Hardwood Stampin Up! Frisky Kittens Rag Quilt

Hi Stampers,

boy, have I been absent! But busy!  I made another rag quilt! It was taking me some time to get inspired  in order to stamp anything. After seeing Stampin Up's new Hardwood rubber stamp being used, I fell in love with it. I can honestly say I've never been inspired to make easter cards before now!

So I will share two things today. My granddaughter's rag quilt, Frisky Kittens, and my Easter cards for this year. :D

Stamp supplies:

Stamps: Blessed Easter, Hardwood
Inks:      Other black, Other yellow, Smoky Slate
Paper:    Whisper white, Wisteria Wonder, Smoky Slate
Accessories:  Other blue ribbon, stamp cleaner, Adorning Accents Edgelits, Blending pen,
                      Stamp-a-ma-jig, poster tape (removable), Big Shot, Magnetic platform

For the card my white measurements are 2 3/4" x 3 5/8" and the purple cut to 3 1/4" x 3 7/8" then use the adorning edgelit on it. I'll show a photo of how I used poster tape also or else the tin tends to move a bit. Also, you'll want to line up your scallops along the edge of the purple on all 3 sides. This will prevent any help scallops :D

Dora is Done! And cute too!

Hi Stampers,

well, it's crazy how life happens around us sometimes. A little bit of life happened here. Not too bad but bad enough. I won't go into details. Just wanted you to know why I've been away lately and didn't complete my card for you last week.

I was all excited to share Dora with you too. :) My blocks are 6 1/2" sewn on the 1/2" mark and cut to the 1/4" mark. The back is a very pretty dark hot pink with white polka dots material. Super cute!
I followed the paper diagonal sewing trick and used a walking foot. Singing "life saver"!!  Any questions, please ask me. I don't mind. Oh yeah, I pinned, pinned, pinned!!! I also used a 45 x 60 warm and natural from Hobby Lobby at 40% off coupon. Toot toot!!

PS: when snipping your rag quilt, Fiskars hand squeeze scissors are the best. They are tough and will cut through 4 layers if you need them too.  Those little snips that are sold by counters, those are just for snipping thread. :)

I SPY (eye) Quilt Almost Done! Dora Rag Quilt is coming along too!

I can't believe that another week has flown by!! Friday is here already!!  Okay…today is devoted to stamping. :)

They eye spy (I) quilt for grand baby boy is almost done!  The Dora rag quilt is for a friend's little girl. It too is coming along nicely.

I have two other to come back from the quilter yet and then it's binding time!  That will make two projects complete since I started quilting (again) from January. :)

Quilting A Little More

Hi Stampers,

Okay, today I finished up sewing all of the I spy squares together and cutting and matching Dora Flannel for a rag quilt for a friend's baby. The I spy got a little off track from the original but still came out cute! Whew!  I was vacuuming and knocked some of them off the board. :)

Now onto stamping before those other's get back from the embroiders'. :D Then it's binding time. :(

Quilting A Little

Hi Stampers,

I am sorry I haven't been around to stamp much. I've been sending cards. Just not stamping. I even ordered new products. I'll try to get something posted next week.

I have been busy though. Look what I've been up too!  My girlfriend started quilting for the first time last year and she got me so inspired, I had to get back into it. Problem is, no one tells you it's addicting!!
Your house gets a little messy from not cleaning and spending so much time in your quilting/sewing room, your hair has more bad days than good. :)  At least that's what's happened to me. LOL

So here's a couple projects. The flips flops are from Love of Quilting magazine May/June 2008.
The truck panel is from Edwards Sewing Center in Fort Wayne, IN. If you purchase there, please tell them you heard about them from my blog. I know they would appreciate it.

The I spy is for my grandson. I've been wanting to make one for oh, 14 years now. Was suppose to be my daughters but she got a bug jar quilt instead. I'll attach a photo of that later.

American Flag Crocheted Afghan

Hi Stampers,

Oh my, I've been having so much fun completing all of my UFO's (unfinished objects).

This flag was a long time coming. It's amazing how many years can go by before you actually think about something and are able to get it finished. The complications I had with the project was with the whipstitching. After WS the log cabin together, I became more familiar with the ends of the rows. Don't ask me why it took me this long to figure this out. LOL   But alas, I'm almost there. It will be completed sometime tonight. :)

Bernat Free Pattern Crochet Star Blanket

Log Cabin Afghan

Hi Stampers,

I'm sorry I've been absent from my blog lately. I've been working on this project for my husband. I finally finished it last night. This is a Log Cabin crochet pattern. If you'd like it, please email me. I'd be happy to share it with you.

Next, I have one baby afghan to do for my Niece's friend. It will be the star afghan in a baby orange and white. I'll post a photo when I'm done.

Banner Blasts & You're Lovely Stampin Up Sets

Vivid Vases Watercolor

Hi Stampers,

Today I'd like to share with you a card that took me a couple of days to work on.  This card is watercolored with the Stampin Write markers, an acrylic tray, and a watercolor brush pen.  I used the pen because I'm not near any water upstairs and having a glass of water upstairs scares me. I'm always afraid it'll get knocked over. :D

Repainted Hutch

Hi Stampers,

I don't have a card to share today. Rather a winter project we took on last year. :D

I bought the hutch from craigslist (locally - home owner).

The steps are pretty easy.

First, use a palm sander and 150 grit sand paper. Next, use 200 grit sand paper to smooth it out.

Second, prime it with a stain blocker primer (oil-based).  Any good primer from a quality paint shop will work. Sand it again with 150 grit after being primed to smooth it out once more. If some of the primer comes off the corners, don't be alarmed, this won't hurt the next coat of paint. (paint not primer).

Third, use a good quality paint from a quality paint shop and most important, use a good quality brush.
This will help eliminate brush stroke marks.

My paint came from Menards, around $18 for the gallon. I used floetrol in my paint to help with the brush marks. Be sure to use very little or else your paint can get too thin.

This hutch is going in my sewing room so it didn't have to be dining room perfect.

I had a carpenter put the blocks of wood in to make the cubbies and he made the new doors that are there too.

The Open Sea & Tri-layering or Triple Layer Stamping

Hi Stampers,

Today I'm starting the morning off right! I've stamped a tri-layer card. I've always wanted to do one of these and they are really simple. I think I'll be making a lot more of them this year.

The measurements for these cards are:

Green card stock base normal size: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" folded ( orig size 5 1/2" x 8 1/2")
Then you get a mat base (almond CS) 4" x 5 1/4"

second layer green CS is 3 1/4" x 4 1/2"
Almond CS 3" x 4 1/4:

third and top layer is green CS: 2 1/4" x 3 1/2"
Almond CS (smallest layer on very top)  2" x 3 1/4"

Next you'll want to put your almond CS back together, layering them on top of each other. Lining them up the best that you can, I used my fingers to hold them in place carefully each time I stamped. You will see a space between the layers that isn't stamped only because the rubber won't reach in that far. Don't worry though, your green CS will cover this up.

Next I randomly stamped images from The Open Sea, one of my favs, then I inked the edges with a sponge and the same color of ink used. (night of Navy).

Last I taped them in order from bottom to top. Carefully positioning them on top of each other.

       the time comes.

Chevron Border Punch

Here is a grad card a bit early. hehe  I received the new Chevron Border Punch from Stampin Up yesterday and I couldn't wait to play. This idea popped into my head for this card because we were all together for Christmas on Saturday and I have one nephew graduating the year 2014 and a niece and a nephew graduating in 2015. Wow! Where is the time going?   Next to graduate are 2 nephews, and 3 nieces and then my own grand babies. :D

Grinch Wreath

Hi Stampers,

Boy, it has been a loooong time since I have posted. I am so sorry. I apologize from the bottom of my heart. I didn't realize that having two grand babies would be so much fun!

I have been decorating early for the holidays just for them. :D  I planned this last year so I had a lot of stuff bought ahead of time.

Here is our Grinch wreath that my sister-in-law helped me decorate. Without any glue even! LOL

BAH HUMBUG GRINCH PUNCH ART

Today I'm bringing you the Grinch. This is going to be the theme of Christmas this year. I've never really had a theme and I thought with the grand babies being a little bigger and more observant now, I'd do a little something fun!

This card was really fun to make. I might even make it my Christmas card this year! :-)  

The Bah Humbug is a grinch font that I downloaded from the net for free from Dafont. I really trust them for PC or MAC.

The Grinch face I Grimmicked from Mainly Flowers. The layout of the grinch came from those snowmen that are layered onto cards which have been around forever. That gave me the idea for the grinch.

Stampin up supplies:

boho blossoms punch, ornament punch (head), 
cupcake builder punch (eyebrows, pupils)
modern label punch (nose), hand drawn mouth, Owl punch (eyes); use the circles above the owl body.
Pennants punch (hat) For the white trim, I punched the bottom of the scallop, then trimmed and put it back through only upside down and punched scallop again.  
2 1/2" circle punch
3" circle die
Old Olive, Real Red, So Saffron, Whisper White, Basic Black card stock.

Other supplies:
brick embossing folder
stackable small scallop circles 3rd and 4th ones in from either direction. :-)

For the fireplace hole, I used the 3" circle die only partially. I made a black one first and didn't quite put the card stock all the way on the circle, then I lined the black template back up with the red, pulled the black away and trimmed the red through the big shot. I hope that makes sense. I used both pieces and the one fit inside the other. I'm thinking a little yellow flame might have been nice for ole' grinchy pooh!  (grinch grin)

Quilted and Piped Letter L

Well, after some much needed rest, I hope I'm back. Summer was a blast! My husband and I traveled a little. There are still a few more wineries I'd like to visit. LOL

Here's something I personalized for a friend for her new sewing room. I hope she loves it!

This idea came from Positively Splendid. Quilted and Piped Letters.  I thought it turned out pretty cute!

I added 5 mm cord from Hobby Lobby. The wood letter and material are from there as well. I had to tie black thread around the ends so that the cord would not unravel.
